“Singing the Blues” Indigo Shibori Dyeing

Blue is my favorite color and Indigo is a magical natural dye. When you lift your fabric or yarn out of the dye pot, the color is an unremarkable yellow green. Slowly as the oxygen in the air reaches the fabric or yarn, the color transforms changing from yellow green to teal and then to blue.

Shibori is the name for several different resist-dyeing techniques such as binding with rubber bands or thread, winding fabric around a pole or a length of rope, stitching, folding, and binding. After the dye color is set, your dyed textiles can be used the same way as any store-bought materials.

April 22, 2023, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm

This indoor class will be an introduction to different ways to prepare your textile for dyeing. We can stitch, wrap, fold, and bind. I have a listing of web sites, YouTube clips and other resources that can be emailed to you, if you let me know.

May 6, 2023, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm

Dyepot day will be outside. Be prepared to get dirty so wear clothing that you don’t mind getting spotted with blue. We will be working out of several 5-gallon buckets so the largest piece of fabric should be approximately ½ yard for the best results.
